August 6, 1951 HMCS HAIDA sinks German minesweeper M486 off Ile d’Yeu, Bay of Biscay. LS R.H. Betts, and AB G.J. Rowe, both killed in action Aug 6, 1944. A/S Kerwin awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal. (This was the second CGM awarded to the RCN. The first was Max Bernay’s on August 6, 1942).
